Colliders And Attractors

SCENE XI

XNADevelopment.com.

Enter George W. “I Build My Own LHC” Clingerman.

George. There's a new XNA sample I've posted on XNADevelopment.com that demonstrates a method of detecting collisions between 2D rotated rectangles.

Hint at a future tutorial about collision detection between 2D rotated rectangles.

George. I hope it's useful! As always, I welcome any feedback anybody might have and I hope this is useful to the XNA community.

Exit.

SCENE XII

The Creators Club forums.

Enter Jim “One Sentence is Enough” Perry.

Jim. What was wrong with the menu system that it had?

Wait for the answer.

Jim. Look at the code and step through it in debug.

Think it is done.

Jim. So change it.
MenuScreen.cs and MenuEntry.cs are where you want to look.

Still no TinyURL link to Let Me Google That For You.

Jim. Use the Measurestring [sic] method along with the width of the viewport to calculate where to draw the text

INTERMEZZO

Twitter.

Enter Jon “Kilo Philosopher” Watte.

Jon. If nothing was hidden, we'd have no choice but to accept the flaws of ourselves and others. That would be a step towards enlightenment!

Exeunt.

SCENE XIII

The Creators Club forums again.

Enter Nick “Reuse is for Sissies” Gravelyn.

Nick. Keep a collection of all the SoundEffectInstances as you play them and then dispose of them as you need.

Write some code, e.g. implement XACT with the simple Sound API.

Nick. That should keep you from ever hitting your audio limit. It's a bit more work but if you're going to allow the user to directly fire off sound effects, it's what you'll have to do in some form or another.

Exit.

SCENE XIV

Meanwhile, on Twitter.

Enter George W. “Discover The Myth Of Reuse” Clingerman.

George. I'm sitting on that dangerous fence where I'm thinking about re-writing all my code for the game I'm currently working on…

Panic.

SCENE XV

The Nick Gravelyn blog.

Enter Nick “The End is Nigh” Gravelyn.

Nick. A while back I spotted Flixel, a Flash/Flex library for game development, which sounded like a fun side project. I wanted to try and get into making little web games, but I didn’t really play with it much and it fell by the wayside. Today I saw a new Flex library called FlashPunk was released and I decided to give it a go.

Share the result in form of a simple Flash game.

Nick. I’m definitely excited to keep playing with this library and making more little Flash games.

Exeunt.

  1. Re: Scene XII – I try to subscribe to the “Teach a man to fish” ideology, especially when it’s obvious the person just wants someone to do their work for them. :)
