Indiefreaks Game Framework 0.1.0.0 released
This just in!
Philippe Da Silva announced the availability of the Indifreaks Game Framework, v 0.1.0.0
The Indiefreaks Game Framework is a set of .Net libraries compiling a few years of experimenting and prototyping design patterns developing games for Microsoft Xna Framework using the SynapseGaming SunBurn graphics engine.
The goal here is to share with the community what I consider as best practices so they can avoid going through the same steps as I did. The Indiefreaks Game Framework is totally free (like in free beer) to use but it still requires you to acquire a SunBurn engine license.
Looking at the framework's official page, you can see some pretty interesting stuff that's in the framework, including
- Smart Content Management
- Smart Input Management
- Cameras
- Alpha Blended Rendering
Go and take a look for yourself.
Free Game Assets 09, Windows Phone 7 Development tutorial series 03 and death to white pixels!
Iron Star Media released a new pack of free stuff, this time containing Photo Quality Textures.
A few days ago, Dark Codex Studios (also known as MVP Petri Wilhelmsen) released the third part of his series of tutorials related to Windows Phone 7 Series Development in XNA.
Kris Steele has a new blog post about "how to create a content importer to fix white edges that appear when importing png files from Adobe Photoshop. This is something that is frequently asked about on the forums and probably the best fix I've seen for it (aside from using a different texture format)" (his own words). The solution he gives is an elegant one, and you can read all about it on his blog.
Debugging the Content Pipeline
Something I always wanted to be able to do was debug the code written for the Content Pipeline, like various processors and importers you might need. I'm sure there are plenty of other people out there who feel the same.
Knowing this, Stephen probably thought it would be a good idea to tease the hell out of us with his Visual Studio extensions that allows you to debug Content Processing of Content projects. Let's hope he releases this soon for everyone to use, because it looks seriously nice.
XNA Pixel Robots
Yesterday I stumbled upon a new XNA blog (new meaning that I never saw it before), and one very interesting article I found there was about a library that you can use to randomly create pixel robots. Go check it out!

XNA Resource Pool
Joel Martinez has a new post on his blog, about his take on resource pooling in XNA.
Back from holidays. News Recap
Hi all!
I'm back from my holidays, so here's a list of news from the XNA world that stacked up, and you might have missed:
Nuclex welcomes us to the first part of his XNA Game Archtiecture Series, where he talks about his proposed development tree and third party libraries.
The series of Free Game Assets continues with a new free pack of Planet Sprites and Textures.
Innovative Game's "Game Engine Tutorial" continues with a new part about the Content Manager.
Shawn Hargreaves has two very enlightening posts the you should definitely read. This first is "Bug or Feature" talking about a bug in Extreme G that was seen as a feature by reviewers. The second one talks about AI Coordinate Systems, as used in Moto GP.
Finally, Nick Gravelyn posted some tweaks to his Interpolators.
Free UI sprites
Looks like I was wrong last time, when I assumed something 4D would be next in the series of Free Game Assets
But even if it's not 4D, what we get this time is still cool: some sprites to use for User Interfaces.
More Free stuff
Remember that day when we linked to some free music for indie games? If you do, REJOICE! There's two more packs of free stuff coming from the same guys at Iron Star Media. First, some sprites for particle effects, followed by low poly sports models.
Following a linear progression, the next pack should contain something that's 4D! Can't wait to see what it is...
Free Music for Indie developers
Iron Star Media just released a few songs that they are giving for free to anyone who want to use them in their Indie Games. Check them out here and see if anything tickles your ears in just the right way.
Need assets for your XNA games?
The guys at Punk Labs, who are currently working on Dead Shift (a "survival-horror game where anything can be used as a weapon") have compiled a very nice list of providers of quality asset packs that you can use in your Indie Games. See the whole list here.
